Kari Kimmel discusses licensing

The business model for the music industry has changed quite a bit over the past 10 years. With record sales dramatically down, labels now¬†recoup their production and promotional investments in artists through merchandise sales, endorsement deals, licensing, and touring in addition to record sales. Since only a younger demographic primarily buys music, music has become more of the sound track for the sale of other products and life styles.¬†Music licensing for commercials, video games, television, and films is a huge business. What was once considered “selling out” now is how many musicians make money in the industry today.
